Genndy Tartakovsky's POPEYE Animation Test

The brilliant Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Star Wars: Clone Wars is working on a Popeye movie to follow up his excellent Hotel Transylvania. Take a look above.

Looks great. But I can't help but be disappointed with the look of Popeye. The eyebrow of his squinted eye should be at a constant angled curve and meet the corner of his eye. Without that it throws his face off. Also no pipe? Really?! Popeye NEEDS his pipe!

Should be more like this if you ask me -

Fixing the Amazing Spider-Man game

So with the massive disappointment that is the recent Amazing Spider-Man 2 game. I decided to go back to the last Amazing Spider-Man game because I remembered that one being pretty good. And sure enough, it is a pretty great Spidey game. Such a shame Beenox dropped the ball on the new game.

Unfortunately in that game it does not have the great costume from ASM2, or even a costume that comes close to the classic Spidey look of the comics. The closest choices you have are the costume from the first "Amazing Spider-Man" movie (which I cannot stand) or with a  really crappy version of the Raimi suit (the eyes look black for some reason). Then I discovered some people had modded alternate costumes into the first game. Awesome, however none of them were what I was looking for, which was a really good classic comic book design...

My next gen platform preference...

The decision may surprise you, or it may not...

For a long time I was really leaning towards the PS4. Is that still my system of choice?

Maybe, kinda... I mean it's certainly a very strong contender, outperforming the Xbox One time and time again in both frame rate and resolution in 3rd party games. You can upgrade the HDD, I have a 1TB Hybrid HDD in mine and it loads really fast. It's also worth noting that even with the standard drive it comes with, the PS4 is much faster at loading games than the Xbox One. The controller is by the best controller I have ever used. Remote play with the Vita. PSN is now as good as Xbox Live (and better than XBL on Xbox One). The video/picture sharing feature is fantastic and PS+ is the dogs bollocks. And it's a $100 cheaper than an Xbox One!

And to be honest, Killzone Shadowfall is quite possible the best looking game on any system. For me it even beats out Crysis 3 on PC most of the time (unless you are running Crysis 3 with some insane graphics card and downsampling).

Everything really seemed to be lining up to make it by far my preferred platform for the next 5+ years, in the way the 360 was for the last 7 years. Which brings me to the Xbox One...

E3 Day Zero Cliff Notes - Sony

After Microsoft's impressive and much needed follow up to the Xbox One reveal it was Sony's turn to bring it, and bring it they did. They did not quite have the same level of quality in the exclusives department. But with the extra horsepower the system has, I can't help but feel PS4 will be the best place for almost all 3rd party games. And they had a couple of other BIG reveals to outshine Microsoft.

E3 Day Zero Cliff Notes - Microsoft

Yesterday was the biggest game in gaming of the year. Microsoft and Sony biggest chance to reveal and pitch their new next generation games consoles to us. For those that didn't have 4 hours free to sit through these wonderful spectacles I offer you my cliff notes and personal thoughts on the two big conferences of the day.
