Fixing the Amazing Spider-Man game

So with the massive disappointment that is the recent Amazing Spider-Man 2 game. I decided to go back to the last Amazing Spider-Man game because I remembered that one being pretty good. And sure enough, it is a pretty great Spidey game. Such a shame Beenox dropped the ball on the new game.

Unfortunately in that game it does not have the great costume from ASM2, or even a costume that comes close to the classic Spidey look of the comics. The closest choices you have are the costume from the first "Amazing Spider-Man" movie (which I cannot stand) or with a  really crappy version of the Raimi suit (the eyes look black for some reason). Then I discovered some people had modded alternate costumes into the first game. Awesome, however none of them were what I was looking for, which was a really good classic comic book design...

Well I was determined to play this game with a decent Spidey costume, so I researched how to make custom costumes and set about trying to create my own for the game. After many hours of trial and error figuring out how the editing worked (it has multiple layers for lighting and texture and they all need to match) I finally figured it. So after about 10 hours of work, it's finally ready!

Behold the classic Spider-Man costume in the best Spider-Man game since Spider-Man 2! The game is finally playable the way I want to play!

I went with slightly raised black webbing and some texture similar to the ASM2 costume on the fabric just so it gives it a more realistic look in the games lighting engine. I tried going for a flat comic book look but it didn't match the games art and looked out of place. I also created an eye texture like that from ASM2 for the same reasons.

  3. Oh I am using it right now! You are the best!! I was thinking though... The black spider on his chest... Ya know how John Romita Sr. drew the spider with all the legs upward, in the classic 60's costume with the webbing underneath his arms? Then you see the spider other artists use, which the legs upwards and downwards. (Which is mainly used in Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, and The Animated series in 1994) That one is my fave! :D

  4. Oh I hear you. JRS's Spidey art in the definitive Spidey IMO. If I could add under arm web I would have :)

Had I thought about it at the time I would have used that one.

    1. Yeah the textures will not support the under arm webbing, I tried it with TEXMOD. But, the classic spider symbol on the chest would be awesome :D
Oh oh! Your spider on the back however, is 100% PERFECT!! :D
